One of the greatest compliments we can receive as a furniture maker is when a past client returns, trusting us once again to create something special for their home. This was the case with a client who first purchased an L-shaped sofa from us in 2016. She loved how well it held up despite years of use, so when she needed a new sofa for her new home, she knew she could count on us for quality and durability.
This time around, the client had a very clear vision—she wanted a curved sofa (curved designs are having a major moment!) but also needed it to accommodate both her and her husband’s seating preferences. They both liked to stretch out and lounge but she also wanted a shallower seat to sit upright comfortably.
Many off-the-shelf options she explored offered small L-shaped sofas as a solution, but she found the chaise portions too deep and took up too much space.
We also initially suggested an L-shaped sofa with curved details, but after some thought, we remembered being inspired by Tacchini’s Roma sofa a while back. The Roma sofa is gracefully curved, yet still practical enough to provide the varied seating depths they needed.
The original design measured W2.4m x D1.4m, which was too large for her new home. To make it work, we proportioned it smaller to W2.1m x D1.2m to fit her living room space.
These dimensions will fit beautifully in her space while also allowing her to access a power outlet conveniently placed to the left of the sofa.
She also loved how this design came as a single, seamless element, unlike her second-best option, which was made up of two separate elements.
The client knew from the start that she wanted a white upholstery, but she also understood the challenge of keeping a light-coloured sofa looking pristine. We advised her to invest in high-performance upholstery, which, while pricier, would be much easier to maintain over time. She took our advice, ensuring that the beauty of her new sofa would last for years to come.
From a craftsmanship standpoint, curved sofas always require extra time and precision. Our artisans had to spend additional hours carefully to “抓” (grasp) the proportions and shaping of the curves to get them just right.
Once we nailed the structure, the rest of the process was within our expertise, allowing us to refine the details seamlessly.
This project was a reminder of why customisation matters. You can create a piece that truly fits the way you live.
Whether it’s adjusting the seat depth for different users, ensuring optimal space usage, or perfecting the smallest curve for visual harmony, every detail plays a role in making a piece feel like home.
