Our client originally owned a 2.7m wide modular sofa that fits her space but she found it tedious and cumbersome when it came to moving the elements around for cleaning.
Comfort was also constant debate among her three-person household. She opted to replace it with a mix of seating: a 1.8m sofa we previously made for her, a 1.m wide bench, and this 1.2m accent sofa.
This sofa skips fixed arms in favour of two movable foam armrests. The armrests provide comfort when used but can be removed to accommodate two people comfortably. The design balances personal use and social adaptability.
Visually, the two-tone palette—a mid-blue/aquamarine seat paired with a light aquamarine base—was inspired by an island sofa reference the client admired. She does not like neutral colours and preferred vibrant colours instead.
Designing for a compact size required careful attention to details:
1. Minimal sitting depth: At 53cm, it offers excellent support without feeling cramped.
2. Pitched backrest design: Encourages natural, relaxed leaning for extended sitting.
3. Fixed backrest: Unlike our typical movable designs, this was secured for safety, especially given the client’s age.
This project perfectly embodies Blafink’s “unapologetically made for you” ethos. Where off-the-shelf options failed her with neutral colours and rigid sizing. We delivered a design that was a personal expression of her style and needs.
